Beginner Asana Group – Start Your Journey with Pawanmuktasana Series

Welcome to your first step into yoga! For beginners, I recommend starting with the Pawanmuktasana Series, which is divided into three parts and taught step-by-step here. In Sanskrit, Pawan means wind or prana (life force), Mukta means release, and Asana means pose. Together, Pawanmuktasana means releasing blocked energy to allow free flow in the body and mind.

This series is suitable for everyone—beginners or advanced, young or elderly, even those recovering from illness. Though gentle, it should be practiced with sincerity, as it helps remove energy blockages, especially in joints and outer limbs, and brings harmony to both the physical and mental bodies.

Awareness in Practice

Each movement should be done mindfully—be aware of your body, your breath, and your thoughts. Notice how your joints and muscles feel. Slow, synchronized breathing will deepen relaxation and sharpen mental focus. Follow the breathing instructions given for each asana.

Don’t Skip Rest

After every two or three movements, pause. Sit quietly with closed eyes, observe your breath, and notice any sensations or emotions. These mini-breaks are just as valuable as the poses—they help build self-awareness and inner balance.

When to Practice

The best time to practice is within two hours of sunrise or around sunset. These times are calm and energetically supportive, helping you connect more deeply with your practice.

So, roll out your mat, find a clean and quiet corner, and begin your journey to wellness.
