A Quiet Beginning
There was a time when my mornings felt like a checklist — a blur of alarms, tasks, and mental chatter. But after moving to London and going through so many life changes, I realized I couldn’t begin my day in a storm and expect calm to follow.
I’m not naturally a morning person. Never was. But now, my mornings are my sacred space. Before the roles, the responsibilities, and the noise, I give myself one full hour — just for me. It’s my way of coming home to myself before I step into the world.
These rituals aren’t fancy, but they bring me clarity, grounding, and deep peace. And here’s the thing — my 4:30 AM self is calm, centred, and present in a way my 8:00 AM self rarely is. That early morning silence? It’s golden.
1. One Hour for Myself — Before the World Wakes Up

I wake up every morning at 4:30 AM, in rhythm with the sun — even in winter. This quiet hour has become the most precious part of my day.
I begin with gratitude and a short prayer, followed by 15 to 20 minutes of conscious breathing and meditation. No apps, no structure — just breath and stillness. Then, after a short pause, I ease into 10 to 15 minutes of gentle yoga to stretch and wake my body.
Then I step onto our small balcony, water my plants, and feed the pigeons that visit us every morning. These simple acts of care — for myself, for nature—bring a deep, unshakable peace.
This hour isn’t about productivity. It’s about presence.
2. A Cup of Warm Nourishment

After movement and stillness, I begin my day with a warm drink — usually lukewarm water with lemon, honey, a pinch of cinnamon, and black salt. If fresh tulsi is available, I steep it in too. This simple blend feels cleansing, comforting, and grounding.
Later, I enjoy a cup of tea — always without milk or sugar. It’s my quiet companion as I ease into the morning, hands wrapped around the cup, watching the sky shift. I also try to keep a 13–14 hour gap between dinner and breakfast to give my body time to reset.
3. A Few Minutes of Stillness or Light Creativity

Sometimes I sit quietly again — by the window, or with soft music — just being.
Other days, I might journal a thought, sketch a small pattern, tidy a corner of the room, or read a few lines from an inspiring book. These little acts aren’t tasks; they’re invitations to connect with myself.
They remind me: peace isn’t something to chase — it’s something to return to.
4. Tuning into Nature

Even if I don’t step outside, I still find a way to greet the natural world each morning. Whether it’s watering plants, watching the birds flutter onto the balcony, or simply observing the sky — these small encounters bring a sense of connection.
They remind me that I’m part of something gentle and grounding. Something bigger than the day’s noise.
5. When Mornings Feel Hard: Small Shifts That Help

Not every day flows perfectly. Some mornings feel impossible — and that’s okay. Here’s what’s helped me:
- Struggling with the snooze button? Place your alarm across the room. Use a gentle tone. Count down from 5 and get up without overthinking.
- Busy household? I wake before everyone else. Prep bags, clothes, and meals the night before. A little planning brings a lot of peace.
- Seasonal struggles? Winter darkness hits hard. I use a sunrise lamp, keep warm clothes nearby, and adjust my routine. Nature changes — so can we.
- Low motivation? I tell myself: “Just five minutes.” Often, that’s all I need to find flow. And when it’s not? I rest without guilt.
A Gentle Close
Not every morning is perfect. Sometimes I oversleep, skip a step, or move through the routine half-awake. But I return the next day — without guilt, without pressure. Just love.
These rituals are not rules. They’re small offerings to myself. They remind me that I deserve to start each day with calm, softness, and intention.
